It is not easy to live healthily in this
day and age. We are easily accessible to unhealthy junk foods like fast foods,
heavily induced sugary sodas, fried delicacies and many more. Not to our
realization, these foods contain high amount of salt and sugar that are not
beneficial to our health. Besides, we are too busy with our work that we become
oblivious about the importance of exercising to keep our body healthy
especially living in the hustle and bustle of the big city. We need to find ways
in order to live a well-balanced lifestyle to keep both our body and mind
healthy. Below I will share some tips on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle
even if you are having a busy schedule.
EAT
WELL
The most important step that pave the
road of a healthy lifestyle is to eat well. We should consume 2 to 3 portions
of fresh vegetables and fruits that contain vitamins and fibre that are crucial
in maintaining good body health so that we do not fall sick easily. We should
avoid processed foods as they are not beneficial to our body. These foods
contain high level of oil, artificial flavouring and preservatives that can
cause many health complications (if consumed excessively) like hypertension,
stroke, obesity and the like. Therefore, we should eat fresh foods and not
processed foods to prevent health diseases that affect our quality of life.
If you are one of those office workers
who work day and night, you need to follow my guide. In the office, try to eat
healthy by preparing healthy food from home. Wake earlier to prepare lunch for
the day to reduce the probability of eating unhealthy foods from the eateries.
SLEEP
WELL
The thing that we always missed is our
sleep. As a living adult, we need to have at least 6- 8 hours of sleep to keep
our mind refreshed and stay alerted for our routines and daily activities. Due
to our stress and workload, most of us do not sleep well every day. When we are
deprived of sleep, we will feel soggy and tired all the day. If we are
continually deprived of sleep, we will fall sick as our mind and body are not
well rested and constantly in a tension mode which is very negative. As
recommended by the experts, it is best if we have a fixed sleeping routine so
that we train ourselves to sleep 8 hours day. In addition, we well feel more energetic
the next day to take on the missions in our daily lives.
If you have the time to take an
afternoon nap, take it. Scientists recommend that we take power nap in the
afternoon for only 15 minutes and that is enough to boost our stamina for the
rest of the day.
EXERCISE
After leaving the school days, adults
seem to neglect their exercise routine. They are busing working during the
weekdays and during weekend they only wanted to spend time resting at home or
visit the newly opened restaurant for good food. Experts recommend that we need
to exercise 3 to 5 times per week (30 minutes per session) so that we can keep
our body healthy and to boost our immune system. Exercising also enable us to
perspire and to improve our blood circulation system. If you are shy for a jog,
go and play outdoor sports with friends or colleagues like badminton during the
weekend in order to keep fit. As a bonus, it can improve our relationship with
friends or colleagues as well. Therefore, start exercising today and keep your
body healthy.
STAY
HYDRATED
Next, we should be well hydrated in
order to maintain a healthy lifestyle. As recommended by experts, we should
intake at least 8 glasses of water per day in order to keep us hydrated. If
during the day the sun is too hot and you perspire more than usual (which is
common in Malaysia context), drink more fluids so that your body and mind can
function properly.
POSITIVE
SOCIAL CONTACTS
Actually, many of us thought that social
interaction has no relation with healthy lifestyle, which is wrong. This is one
of the important points that we often forget. We need to maintain a positive
relationship with friends or colleagues. During our free time, we can invite our
friends to chit-chat over a drink to relax our body and mind. We can also
invite our friends to a vacation to temporarily free ourselves from the stress
of working. Spend your free time to build positive social contact with our
friends and family. If we do so, we are distancing ourselves from negative
thoughts that we might have when we are living in our own world all the time.
